Civilian Casualties
Restricted official information indicates that the largest portion of incarcerated Palestinians from Gaza who lost their lives in detention were non-combatants, based on a related inquiry.

High-Profile Cases
Some deaths in detention have been high profile, for instance a 50-year-old hospital director who died in detention after a third of a year in confinement.
A prisoner held with the deceased testified that he was taken to the yard by prison staff just prior to his demise, obviously hurt and naked from the lower body. His remains has not been repatriated to Gaza.
Other prisoners who died in Israeli custody stay unnamed. Detention administrators and defense forces supplied analysts with the number of deaths in confinement, and minimal additional information such as the location where they died, but excluding the detainees’ identities.
Documentation Problems
In 21 cases, mainly people from Gaza, analysts were unable to correlate the limited information supplied by officials to a fatality documented by human rights groups, either through testimony from former inmates or reporting in the news outlets.
