Instructor Fatally Shot and 25 Female Students Kidnapped in Armed Clash at Nigerian School

Armed conflict at school
Learning centers in northern Nigeria have repeatedly come under attack for militant organizations

Gun-wielding individuals have killed a teacher and seized a minimum of 25 learners in an attack on a educational institution for young women in north-western Nigeria, police reports indicate.

The armed faction stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State at around 4 AM local time on the start of the week, authorities reported.

The assailants "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a firefight" before scaling the perimeter fence and seizing the students from their living quarters, authorities disclosed.

A school employee was lost their life while safeguarding the students. Another staff member suffered bullet injuries and is now receiving treatment.

Witnesses reported a large group of attackers, known locally as bandits, who appeared discharging weapons intermittently to generate terror.

Local residents informed journalists that the attackers afterwards forced a group of female students into adjacent wilderness.

The law enforcement confirmed they had positioned "supplementary tactical squads, alongside military personnel and community security teams" to the area.

A organized locating and saving mission is currently ongoing in nearby woodlands and suspected escape routes.

In the past few years, learning centers in northern Nigerian regions have increasingly been targeted for militant organizations, who often carry out abductions to demand financial compensation or gain negotiating power with authorities.

The assault in Kebbi State emphasizes the ongoing security challenge afflicting the area, causing relatives in Maga in a condition of terrified weariness as they expect and desire their children's secure homecoming.

Security crisis in northern Nigeria has intensified significantly in recent months, with schools bearing the brunt of the unrest.
