Jurgen Klopp says a return to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed England's top flight in the previous campaign, though countless followers who adore the manager would embrace the possibility that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he told the podcast host: “I stated I will never coach another team in England. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, so the choice could be mine later on, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations must arise to draw him back to the dugout, he revealed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; No need for press conferences multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits around the place. I still have the captain's chuckle in my ear for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes that took the title last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in all competitions following significant transfers, but he rubbished the idea that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, and the effect for the team. The forward lost his life in a vehicle collision with his brother this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment without him in it. Putting it into words is tough about it. A devastating blow for all the boys too. No one within the club might employ it as an excuse yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Dealing with that on a personal level is difficult. Impossible.”
