New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their latest talk.
“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”
The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he is reported as critical but stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that reassures me, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”
NYPD shared video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt were reported.
The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday near Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a child.
“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd did not participate during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.
Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on early August and was carted from the field.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”
Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
