One of Avatar: The Last Airbender's most beloved episodes receives its own Magic: The Gathering special card drop.
Typically, recap episodes are disliked by fans as a pointless waste of time, or at best tolerated as a requirement in television during the period of regular broadcasts. This wasn't always true, and Avatar: The Last Airbender demonstrated this via "The Ember Island Players," a popular segment from its final season now being granted a dedicated Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drop.
Highlights of the Secret Lair
The complete Secret Lair superdrop for the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender set was announced recently. This includes five distinct sets, and although the one called "My Cabbages!" is an admittedly humorous tribute to the show's best background character, the other collections appear slightly lacking creativity, except for one standout: "The Ember Island Players."
Drawing from the seventeenth episode in the final season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, this Secret Lair contains these particular cards:

What makes this segment remains memorable
Viewers of Avatar warmly cherish this episode, which served as a recap of the protagonist Aang and his companions' journey before the series' finale. Different from other recap episodes, or "clip shows," "The Ember Island Players" did not stem due to production constraints or creative challenges. The show's makers genuinely intended to offer viewers a chance to reflect on the overall plot, but they decided to execute it with flair.
During the installment, the crew observe a stage show depicting their adventures in a theater set on Ember Island, titled The Boy in the Iceberg. The entire performance is wildly exaggerated, over-the-top, and utterly comical. It works because it plays on the characters' views of themselves, contrasting them against how the world (and particularly the antagonist nation) perceives them. It contains the right amount of self-awareness, and it becomes perhaps the finest interpretation of the series we have had.
Appeal and cost
Regarding worth, this is a great Secret Lair because of one major element: Braid of Fire. This card trades for $20 and $40 on online marketplaces currently, and for $29.99 you can obtain the full set, or alternatively $39.99 for the shiny edition.
Magic: The Gathering's Avatar: The Last Airbender edition is available during early access events beginning November 14 and launches globally on Nov. 21.
