PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
