The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song
This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure from Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.
This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
