The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
