This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
