Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical Tabletop Role-Playing Game
The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to create a tabletop RPG that explores the franchise’s post-pandemic setting. The project has been announced, with a funding drive planned to begin in the spring of 2026.
"This project will bring the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the table, offering fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through deep narrative and mission-based gameplay," states an official release.
Initial offerings will include a starter set, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, figurines, and various premium versions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this setting, a deadly virus called Green Poison was released in New York City, sending the nation into turmoil. As the pandemic worsens, civil order breaks down and violent factions rise, transforming the urban landscape into a battlefield. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of undercover operatives. This is where the players enter the story.
Development on the RPG has been underway for approximately several years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a wider audience, specifically in the United States. Manufacturing will start right after the fundraiser, with deliveries projected for the latter part of 2026.
A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System
A preview at the system confirms it employs 10-sided dice exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a fast-paced and strategic approach. Agents leverage skills or traits to assemble a handful of dice, usually from one to five d10s.
- Rather than summing the total, participants choose a single “result die” from the group.
- This die is then compared against a target difficulty.
- Rolling a perfect 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as extra damage or enhanced aid.
Combat Focus On Positioning and Awareness
Battles stress positioning and environmental awareness, reflecting the source material. Elements like cover, elevation, or line of sight directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic is designed to reward coordination and clever tactics instead of simple statistics.
A Thematic Wound System
The way injuries is tracked introduces a compelling narrative layer. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their capabilities by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At zero health, an agent collapses, but is not knocked out.
- They may still crawl and perform restricted acts, emulating the "downed" state seen in video game shooters.
- Any agent knocked down must roll on a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.
A Ready-to-Play Scenario
A free Quickstart Guide will be released in the near future. It includes a ready-to-play introductory scenario titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players spearhead the search for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers gang, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the complete product lineup are expected to be detailed near the campaign launch.
