Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that Pluribus would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the hit sci-fi show wrapping up—and the next chapter officially in the works—the writers' room opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. He is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's by design. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Has Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
