Vince Zampella, the mind behind the wildly popular video game Call of Duty, has tragically died in a car accident in Los Angeles, California aged 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the video game company he co-founded.

The renowned game designer passed away following his vehicle was involved in a crash and was engulfed in flames on a highway in the Los Angeles area on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This is a heartbreaking loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, his loved ones, and everyone impacted by his legacy," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts commented.
